So George Rekers, one of the co-founders of the Family Research Council, a man who has devoted his  adult life to fighting gay rights all over the world, hired a twenty-year-old gay man whom he found on rentboy.com to carry his bags for him during a ten-day leisure trip through Europe.

At times like this a fiction writer throws up his hands. hard to imagine a more perfect metaphor for what Rekers—ah, the name, too!—has done to gay people everywhere: ask them, time and again—for more than thirty years—to carry his baggage.
