Dawn

June flowers unfolding—
Your gory arrival—

Along the horizon, the trees
Brushed the sky
Reassuringly, through
The maelstrom. Your mother

Turned her gaze away

When they placed you, wrapped—
Overwrapped—in her arms
And let your blue skin

Pink.
